NEW RIDER INFORMATION & RULES OF MARSHALLING

NOTES TO HELP YOU GET STARTED TODAY

Hello, and welcome to East Kent.
We’re very glad you’ve decided to join us and hope you’ll enjoy your first day’s racing so much that we’ll be seeing you as regular riders with the Club.
If you’ve never taken part in a motocross meeting before, “getting started” can be a very confusing experience, not to say “stressful”, which could mar your enjoyment of the event for the remainder of the day.  It is for this reason that we have detailed below, very briefly, what you need to know and do before you can actually take part in the racing, and what to expect during the day.

Make your way to the signing-on desk and obtain membership form and licence application form & complete in full.

Hand in completed forms, together with Birth Certificate (or  ID for an adult rider) and you will be issued a riding number, given a Rule Book and membership card.  Pay for membership, licence and riding fee and “sign in” your rider.  You must sign in at every meeting.

Purchase correct riding numbers (& background colours if necessary) from spares van, then together with rider, bike & helmet, go to the Scrutineer (near sign-on table) and get bike checked for safety. (This must also be done at every meeting).

At approx. 9.45 go with rider who should be fully dressed for racing including helmet & gloves, and bike to the Clerk of Course (you will be told where to meet) for a short competence test.  Get licence application form stamped.

Return to sign-on table where temporary licence will be issued.  This is valid for 56 days, the full licence will be sent on to you by post.

Make yourself aware of race order of the day (there is a board at the desk) and prepare yourself for the practice session (usually about 10.00 am).  Each group has 2-3 laps of practice where riders will start off individually, as signified by the Starter.

Once practice is over, racing will begin, in groups according to the race order of the day.  Please be at the starting line in plenty of time for your race.

There will be a total of 3 “blocks” of racing during the day, usually with a short lunch break for change of marshals after the 8th race (one “block” plus 2 races).

Marshal points are allocated at signing-on.  Everyone has to marshal, although we try not to ask new members to marshal on their first day.  However, you will subsequently be expected to assist.  If you are unsure of what you are expected to do, please ask.  It is very important for everyone’s safety that you fully understand what is required of you.

Do not enter onto the track, (except for the spectator areas) at any time during racing.  If your rider needs assistance, he/she will be helped by a marshal or Committee member.

Racing results will be posted at the signing on table during the day.

If you need any help – please ask!!

Please read your Rule Book and the Rules of Marshalling that follow – they will both give a clearer picture of the procedures.  We all hope that you have an enjoyable day racing with your Club!
