The third round of East Kent's Winter Championship held at the Newnham
Circuit was held under clear skies and with excellent track conditions,
a large turnout to this popular venue saw exciting racing and a fistful
of first race wins.
Robin
Ling took the first overall in the 65 class with a first race win. Scott
Bailey also took his first ever race win and 2nd overall
with Ryan Thomerson once again finding himself in the top 3.
Court
Horey again showed his dominance in the Auto group taking the overall
however Jake Dixon ensured Horey didn’t have it all his own way with
another first race win and 2nd overall with Toby “storming”
Stubberfield completing the top 3.
The
small wheel 85 class had a different face up front as Ben Taylor took a
fantastic race win and the overall from Kray Still in second and the
ever improving Karl Johnson in 3rd.
Joe Cundle won the first race but a DNF in the second race of the
day denied him the necessary points for a place in the top 6.
The
Large Wheel 85 class had excitement and thrills as old adversaries Peter
Wise and Phil Sims battled it out with Sims taking the overall from Wise
in 2nd. Troy
Beck took 3rd. Dynamite
Dan Smith also suffered from mechanical failure in the first race of the
day, but banished the Gremlins for a 2nd place finish in the
final race of the day.
The
senior class also saw 2 race wins and 2 different race winners. With
Nikki Huntley taking the 1st race and the overall with Louis
Waugh taking the 2nd race but a DNF in the first race
denying him a place in the top 6. 2nd
overall was taken by Nathan Preece from Jamie Foreman in 3rd.
The
winter championship has proved extremely popular with the AMX riders and
this meeting was no exception the biggest line up of the day held the
biggest surprise the comeback of Danny Foreman, from a lengthy injury
and his debut in the AMX class. He stormed to a first race win with club
favourite Lance Marshall chasing but failing to catch the charging
Foreman. With the stage set for the second race of the day bike trouble
denied Foreman a repeat performance and a place in the top 6.
Lance Marshall took 1st overall from Chris Day in 2nd
and Alistair Paterson in 3rd.
Surprise
race wins and mechanical failures have blasted the East Kent Winter
Championship wide open with 2 rounds left to race and the added
excitement of wildcards mixing it with the club favourites no one can
predict the outcomes.
