SIMPLY THE BEST
East Kent welcomes
“the Peoples Champion” to their Annual Presentation
Christmas came early this year for
the members of the East Kent Schoolboy Scramble Club at their
annual Presentation Evening. The guest was none other than Belgium
legend and 10 times World Champion
Stefan Everts,
undertaking his first prize giving ceremony in over 10 years.
After the
initial shock of seeing their idol and asking “have we really got
Stefan Everts ?” The riders and their families celebrated the
achievements of the racing year in awe of the superstar who was
handing out the trophies. Stefan kindly donated autographed copies
of his new book and DVD which led to some fierce bidding as an
auction took place.
He autographed pictures,
trophies, photos, programmes, shirts, beer mats and numerous body
parts that were presented to him by the star struck fans young and
old!
Stefan had some words of wisdom for the parents and wished
the riders well. He wished the club good luck for the 2007 race
season and left the members with the best end to the 2006 season
that they could have ever imagined.
Thank you Stefan
and
well done to the committee for arranging and presenting a historic
night for the club.

East Kent were
back at Newnham recently for the fourth round of the Winter
Championship. The track was in good condition and on a chilly but
sunny day the club held it’s last race meeting of 2006. A big thank
you to Chairman Andrew Still and the dedicated Committee for all
their hard work this year. The effort that they put in allows us to
spend our Sundays doing what we love, enjoying motocross!
Sid Evans
dominated the Auto group as he raced his way to a maximum and the
overall. Christopher Nuttall earned a pair of seconds and a third to
take second overall. Jack Carter joined them on the podium, rewarded
for his second place in the last Moto. Daniel Dumont earned fourth
overall after gaining a third place in Moto two, a personal best.
Another best ever result for Joe Ellson as he reached the top six in
the last Moto, well done boys!
The Juniors
first Moto saw Max Acres storm ahead and take the flag, Jordan Wood
and Jack Wilson followed him. Moto two was a win for Daniel Packman
with Jack in second and Connor Dennis third. The last Moto was
another win for Daniel chased by Jordan and Max. With the points
tied Daniel earned the overall from Jordan in second place and Jack
in third.
In the
Small-Wheel 85 group the first Moto was a gate to flag win for
Oliver Townsend. Toby Harkness pursued him into second with Louis
Moyle in third. Excellent racing from Ryan Fellowes as he overcame a
bad start and moved up from last to finish in fourth place. The
second Moto saw Ryan take the win followed by Daniel Guy and Joseph
O’Rourke. The last Moto was another win for Ryan, chased by Daniel
and Louis. First overall going to Ryan, Daniel and Louis joining him
on the podium.
The highly
competitive Big-Wheel 85’s were as entertaining as ever with both
Arron Jenner and Kray Still racing with punctures! Moto one saw Kray
gain the advantage and take the win followed by Arron and Mark
Richards. Moto two made it a double for Kray with Ben Crane staying
ahead of the rest of the pack to earn second ahead of Arron. The
last Moto saw Arron take back the advantage and earn the win, Ben
having an excellent race behind him with Jack Brown in third. The
overall earned by Arron, Ben in second and Kray in third.
In the Seniors
first Moto Aston Day gained the Holeshot, the start of a great days
racing for him. Joe Cundle took the win in style with Matt Hornby in
second and Aston in third. Moto two saw a battle between Matt and
Joe for first place with Matt holding on to the win, Joe second and
Tommy Rye in third. The last Moto was restarted after being red
flagged, and again saw Joe and Matt do battle. The win and the
overall earned by Joe, Matt in second and Tommy in third
guaranteeing their podium spots with Aston taking fourth.
AMX rider
Dexter Marks raced his way to another maximum with Troy Beck tailing
him relentlessly leaving the battle for third going on behind them.
In Moto one Alix Foreman earned the position with Nathan Preece
gaining it in the next two Motos. The overall well deserved by
Dexter, Troy keeping his cool in second with Nathan taking third on
the day.
Help celebrate
the riders’ achievements at the Club Presentation Evening on the 9th
December. See you there!

East Kent were
at the Riverside MX practise track in Dartford for the third round
of their Winter Championship. The committee would like to thank
Michael Banks for all his hard work in preparing the track and for
his assistance on Sunday. The great conditions lead to a full three
blocks of exciting racing taking place.
The Autos were
the first group out and raced on the whole track. In Moto one Drew
Warren had a fall on the first lap but went on to show his stuff and
triumphantly take the win, the first of a maximum for the young
rider that secured him the overall. Christopher Nuttall led the rest
of the group to gain second place in all three Motos and second
overall. Thomas Borrett earned third place in Moto one but was
beaten to the last podium place by Ashdon Manktelow who gained third
in both Moto two and three. Well done to Luke Horley for an
excellent ride and a top five position in Moto two!
The Juniors
first Moto was a gate to flag win for Connor Dennis. Daniel Packman
chased him into second with Jack Wilson gaining third. Moto two was
another well deserved win for Connor pursued this time by Jordan
Wood and Jimmy Moore. The last Moto saw victory for Jack followed by

and Jack third on the day. Wishing a get well soon to Jimmy who
broke his leg during the last Moto.
In the
Small-Wheel 85’s Oliver Townsend took all three wins in style to
earn the second maximum of the day. In the first Moto he was tailed
by Joseph O’Rourke and Lee Newby, the pair swapped final positions
in Moto two. The last Moto saw Lee battle for second place with
Louis Moyle taking third. Lee earning the podium spot next to Oliver
with Joseph third overall.
The Big-Wheel

Still gained the first two wins with Arron Jenner taking both second
places. The last Moto saw Arron first to the flag with Kray second.
All three Motos saw a different rider chase into third place, Lewis
Dowsett, Ben Crane and David Taylor earning the places. Consistent
racing from David gave him the last podium position alongside Kray
and Arron.
In the AMX
David Fearne earned a gate to flag win in Moto one. Brett Fisher
took second with ‘Dynamite’ Dan Smith in third. Moto two saw victory
for Dexter Marks followed by Brett with Troy Beck in third. The last
Moto was a second win for Dexter with Troy and David behind him. The

having been tied on points with Troy.

were the last group to race and had three different winners. Tommy
Rye took Moto one from Junior Thomas and Matt Hornby. Moto two was a
win for Matt followed by Ashley Watt and Tommy. The last Moto saw
Ashley take the flag chased by Craig Bliss and Matt. With the

Report by Angela Johnson
East Kent held
the second round of the Winter Championships at the popular Newnham
track. The predicted downpours held off for practise but during the
first block of racing the clouds loomed overhead. The riders battled
in the mud to finish the second block until rain stopped play, the
safety of the riders being the committee’s main concern.
In the Seniors
Tommy Rye took the first Moto in Style with a gate to flag win. Hot
on his heels was Tommy Johnson with Lee Powell chasing them and
holding on to third. The second Moto saw Tommy Johnson gain his
first ever holeshot and lead the race for three laps until Tommy Rye
took the lead as the pair put on a great show on their Honda’s.
Craig Bliss pursued them into third place. The overall earned by
Tommy R, his best result to date in this group. Tommy J in second
and Lee third overall, both piloting their new four-strokes to
personal bests. Well-done boys!
The AMX first
Moto saw Brett Fisher take the lead with Dexter Marks following him.
The pair pulled away from the rest of the pack and battled until
Dexter made his move and gained the win. Troy Beck and Graham
Heasman led the rest of the group into third and fourth. The next
Moto was a win for Brett with Dexter in second, Troy in third and
Graham in fourth. Tied on points the overall was decided on the last
race, Brett earning the top spot with Dexter and Graham joining him
on the podium.
The Big-Wheel
85’s first Moto was close fought between Arron Jenner and Shaun
Springer. Exciting racing followed as they flew around the track,
the win going to Shaun with Arron in second and Mark Richards in a
well-earned third place. The second Moto saw Arron in front until
the last lap when Mark snatched the lead and gained the win. Tied on
points Mark earned first overall, Shaun second and Arron third.
In the
Small-Wheel 85’s Joseph O’Rourke stormed to victory in both Motos.
In the first race he was followed by Sam Brampton who had a great
ride into second and Zach Peters chasing into third. In the second
race Toby Harkness and Daniel Guy pursued him to earn second and
third respectively. Joseph took the overall with Sam and Zach
joining him on the podium. Excellent racing everyone!
In the Juniors
first Moto Connor Dennis took the hole-shot prize and won himself a
brand new tyre! Jack Wilson then took the lead and was unstoppable.
Connor and Daniel Packman chased him to the flag. The second Moto
saw the riders sliding all over the track with the mud getting the
better of them. Jack W showed them how it should be done with Jack
Norman behind him having a brilliant race and earning second place.
Daniel was consistent in third. The overall earned by Jack W, second
going to Daniel with Jack N taking his podium place for the first
time.
The mighty
Autos raced in the worst conditions and had the track cut for safety
reasons. The first Moto was a win for Sid Evans with Jamie Cox in
second and Taylor Smith in third. The last Moto saw Sid in the lead
until the last lap when Jamie made the most of the mud-fest and
earned the win. He was followed by Taylor in second and Jack Carter
in third. The overall earned by Jamie, with Sid in second and Taylor
third on the day.
Many thanks to
everyone who helped the meeting to run in such wet and muddy
conditions. See you at Riverside on 5th November.

The AMX produced the most thrilling
racing of the day. Visitor Joe Stevens snatched Moto one from Brian
Carter. Brian repaid Joe in Moto two when a costly mistake lost him the
lead. Moto three saw Graham Heasman defend his gate to flag win from the
persistent Jamie Arnold. The overall going to Brian, Graham in second
and Jamie third.

three different winners. Josh Coomber took Moto one, Joe Cundle stormed
ahead to win Moto two and Visitor Mitchell Jenkins made Moto three his
