18th November 2007 - Newnham

Report by Angela Johnson

The last East Kent SSC meeting of the year was held at Newnham on an extremely cold and windy Sunday. The track was in good condition and practise went well but despite the smooth start we only managed to fit in two full blocks of racing due to accidents and failing light.

AMX rider Graham Heasman, on his new Yamaha, raced his way to the flag in both motos securing him the overall. Darren Arscott earned two second places and Michael Bunn took both thirds to join Graham on the podium.

In the Senior group Joe Cundle posted two wins and a second to take the overall. Arron Jenners triumphant win in the first moto was followed up by a second and a third place to give him second on the day. Tommy Rye secured the last spot on the podium after a solid day of racing.

Big-wheel riders Shaun Springer and Bradley Pocock put on a gripping display as they battled for the win in both motos. The riders earned a win apiece with Shaun securing the overall as the last moto points were doubled for the final result. Chris Chapman and Toby Harkness put on a similar show for third place with the podium spot earned by Chris.

In the Small-wheel group Jake Fry earned the first win, a fourth place in the last moto guaranteed him the overall. A second and a third place secured Brad Garrett second on the day. A win for Ryan Fellowes in the last moto moved him up to third place and a podium finish.

The Junior riders were consistent with the top eight remaining the same in both motos!  Patrick O'Neil battled George Turner to the flag in moto one and followed up with another win to take the overall. George earned two second places with Callum Heasman bringing home third.

The Auto group rode the shortened track with their usual style and saw Jake Kemp win the second moto and the overall. Ashdon Manktelow won the first moto and earned second on the day. A pair of second places secured the last spot on the podium for Carl Budge.

See you at the presentation on Saturday 8th December and at the AGM on Sunday 16th December.

4th November 2007 - Newnham

Report by Angela Johnson

East Kent were at Newnham for the second round of the Winter Championship. Our Chairman Gary Lane was at home recuperating but was with us in spirit and will soon be back in the paddock.

The Auto riders were few in number but big in heart as they took to the track with determination. Jake Kemp earned the overall and was joined on the podium by Lewis Cloud in second and Eton Williams in third, an excellent result for the young guns!

In the Junior group Callum Heasman posted another set of wins to take the overall. Patrick O'Neil chased him into second place followed by Mitchell Lewis in third

Daniel Packman led the Small-Wheel's with a well-earned maximum. John Waghorn had an outstanding day with two second places securing him second overall. A second and third place earned Liam Hicks the last spot on the podium.

In the Big-Wheel's Shaun Springer fought hard against newcomers to the group, Toby Harkness and Zach Peters, to take two wins and the overall. Zach earned a first, second and a third place to take second on the day. Toby was rewarded with third overall after some great racing.

In the Senior group consistency was the order of the day with Scott Hollingsbee taking the overall after a win in the last moto. Tommy Rye brought home second on the day with Dean Simes in third after posting two wins. Arron Jenner made his presence felt as he led the third moto until his borrowed bike blew up on the last lap.

AMX rider David Fearne was first to the flag in all three motos and earned the overall. With riders pulling out due to injuries and bike trouble the remaining podium positions were left up for grabs. Michael Bunn secured second and Ben Rocks was third on the day.

We will be back at Newnham or Ringmer on November 18th for round three of the Winter Championship.

21st October 2007 - Ringmer

Report by Anna Cornelius

The first round of the winter championship is always full of thrills spills and excitement and the meeting at the Ringmer Circuit did not disappoint.

The older AMX riders felt the pressure of the young guns as Paul Anderson put in a brilliant performance to take third overall on his first outing in the group. Troy Beck and Dave Fearne were the front runners with Troy taking the taking the overall with three straight wins and Dave taking 2nd overall.

All eyes were on the Seniors to see if the big guns from the Big Wheels would take the class by storm, Arron Jenner put in a valiant ride finishing in the top 6 on his Big Wheel 85.  But Kray Still set the class alight with two spectacular 2nd place finishes and finishing 3rd Overall from Tommy Rye in 2nd and Karl Johnson taking the overall with a Maximum points score.

The Big Wheels saw Shaun Springer stamp his authority on the class with 3 wins.   Jordan Divall took 2nd Overall from newcomer Toby Harkness in 3rd

The Small Wheel Class saw Lee Newby continue the trend with 3 clear wins to take the overall with Ryan Fellowes taking 2nd and Oliver Townsend taking 3rd overall.  Jordan Wood put in an impressive first ride in the group and maybe the one to shake up the complacency in the front runners in this group.

A first win in the Juniors for Callum Heasman, put a smile on many a face.  With Callum taking the slowest ever victory lap in history to savour the moment.  Jack Wilson won the second but was denied the overall which went to Heasman with Wilson in 2nd and Patrick O’Neill 3rd.  This group will mature as the season goes on and new riders find their feet on their geared bikes.

The Autos were a small band of mini warriors with only the brave venturing out on the frosty Sunday morning.  Tom Hutchinson took the overall with Jake Kemp in 2nd and Tyler Hallawell taking 3rd.

An unfortunate incident cut short the racing for the day.  The 2nd round at Newnham on the 4th November 2007 has the makings of a fantastic meetings with riders returning to a familiar stomping ground with everything to ride for.

The East Kent Committee would like to thank Mid Sussex for the kind permission to use the Ringmer Circuit.

14th October 2007 - Riverside

Report by Angie Johnson

The Riverside MX track played host to East Kent's last Summer Championship round which also doubled as a trophy meeting. Due to accidents and time constraints only two blocks of racing were able to be run, meanwhile points were being hastily tallied by many in the paddock as the final championship positions came into sight. The points team worked extra hard to produce the final results of the day and trophies were presented to all the riders.

AMX rider Alix Foreman took two well-earned flags to win the overall and the top trophy. He was joined on the podium by Neil Midgley with a pair of seconds. Alistair Patterson's third place in the first moto secured him third overall.

In the Senior group Rowan Hill and Karl Johnson battled it out during both motos with the pair earning a win apiece. Karls second place in moto one secured him the overall from Rowan who despite a flat tyre in moto two brought home second on the day. Paul Andersons second place in the last moto earned him the third place trophy.

The Big-Wheels first moto was tense as championship leaders Shaun Springer and Arron Jenner crashed leaving Jordan Divall to storm to victory. Arron raced back into second place as Shaun pushed hard to get back from last place to finish 18th, John Hobbs had a great ride into third. The second moto saw Shaun lead the way tailed by Arron until a fall from the unlucky rider lost him that lead and he had to settle for second behind the triumphant Arron. The overall earned by Arron with Jordan second and the consistent Lewis Dowsett third on the day.

The Small-Wheels first moto was equally as tense as championship leaders Toby Harkness and Lee Newby battled for points. Toby took the win with Lee following until disaster struck and he fell at the last bend, unable to start his bike Lee saw valuable points slipping away from him. In the second moto Toby was again first to the flag and in a fine show of sportsmanship beckoned second placed Lee to join him in a lap of honour. A great end to the exciting display that the two young riders have put on this summer. Daniel Packman's pair of thirds earned him the second place trophy, with Oliver Townsend in third overall.

Junior rider Jack Wilson was victorious in both motos, pursued in each by Sid Evans who brought home second on the day. Connor Dennis gained a third and a fifth place to earn him the trophy for third overall. Unlucky Jordan Wood saw a top trophy slip through his fingers when his bike blew up during the last moto.

Jake Kemp took the top trophy in the Auto group with two excellent wins. He was joined on the podium by Daniel Dumont who earned a pair of seconds and Ashdon Manktelow who earned a pair of thirds. Sam Ainsworth raced into fourth overall despite losing his seat in the first moto! He was tied on points with Lewis Cloud who finished the championship with his best result to date.

Lamberhurst was the setting for East Kent's penultimate round of the Club Summer Championship. The track was in great condition and on a sunny autumn day a full three blocks of racing took place.

Tom Hutchinson stormed to victory in the Auto group with a big lead between him and second placed Elliot Phillips in all three motos. Third overall went to Ashdon Manktelow who finished 2 points ahead of Daniel Dumont who in turn finished 2 points ahead of Sam Ainsworth.

Junior rider Jack Wilson was first to the flag in all three motos adding another maximum to his impressive points total. Jordan Wood had a great third race to secure second place overall. Patrick O'Neil gained a second and a third place to earn him the last spot on the podium.

In the Small-Wheel group Lee Newby earned two wins and a second place to take the overall. Championship leader Toby Harkness followed him into second on the day. Zach Peters was first to the flag in the last moto securing him third overall.

With only a handful of points separating Big-wheel leaders Shaun Springer and Arron Jenner some exciting racing was on the cards. The boys battled each other during all three motos with Shaun taking two wins and a second place to earn the overall. Arron earned a win and two second places to bring home second on the day. Jordan Divall raced to his best points of the championship so far and took a well-earned third spot on the podium.

In the Senior group Karl Johnson put his bad luck behind him and was back to his best, two wins and a second place earned him the top spot on the podium. Paul Anderson gained a win, a second and a third place to secure him second overall. Championship leader Ashley Watt earned the last podium place. Reece Jordan and Peter Hook both earned their best points of this Championship with a great day of racing for the pair.

AMX rider David Fearne piloted to a well-earned maximum as he flew around the track. Dave Capper, on a borrowed bike, earned a pair of seconds and a third place to take home second overall. Visitor George French held off the rest of the competition to secure third on the day.

16th September 2007 - Bletchingley

Report by Angie Johnson

Over 200 riders signed in with East Kent for the clubs annual visit to Bletchingley. The sandy track looked in great condition after heavy watering, many thanks to T+M Plant Hire for use of the bowsers, and with the end of the championship looming the riders were keen to get to the gate and for the racing to start.

The Senior group saw some excellent racing in all three motos as the riders battled for positions. In moto one Tommy Rye, Matt Hornby and Karl Johnson all got off to a flying start, but Ashley Watt and Paul Anderson chased them down taking advantage of slip ups and bike failure to be first and second to the flag with Tommy in third. The next moto saw Ashley gain a second win with Matt pressuring him all the way and Paul leading the rest of the pack. The last moto was red flagged after a multi bike pile-up and restarted once all the riders were safely pulled out from under the machines. At the re-start Aston Day took off like a rocket pursued by Scott Hollingsbee but it was Matt who worked his way through to take the lead and hold off Scott and Joe Cundle to take the well-earned win. The overall earned by Ashley with Paul and Matt joining him on the podium.

The first AMX moto saw Troy Beck return to East Kent and gain the win pursued by championship leader Dexter Marks with Josh Hughes working his way up to third. The next moto was a win for Dexter with Alix Foreman snatching second place from Troy at the finish line. The last moto saw Alix and Troy take it in turn to lead until Dexter made his move and left them battling for second place behind him, Alix gaining the place with Troy settling for third. Dexter earned the overall followed by Troy and Alix.

The highly competitive Big-wheel group saw Kray Still take the first win chased by Arron Jenner and Shaun Springer. The second moto saw the riders swap positions with Shaun taking the lead pursued by Kray with Arron in third. In the last moto Shaun led the pack as Arron suffered a fall and Kray lost his silencer!  With the unlucky Kray out of the running Arron picked himself up and chased after the leaders pulling back into third place behind the winner Shaun and Ben Crane who had a great race to earn second. The podium places earned by Shaun, Arron and Ben respectivley.

In the Small-wheel group Toby Harkness took the first win with Lee Newby keeping the pressure on in second place and Zach Peters in third. The second moto saw Lee take the lead and keep hold of it as Toby pursued him into second and Zach was solid in third. The last moto was nailbiting as Toby and Lee proceded to swap the lead and Zach saw second place slip away from him along with a podium finish. Toby gained the win and the overall, Lee took second and the next spot on the podium with Ryan Fellowes's third, fourth and fifth finishes earning him the last podium place.

The Juniors first moto was red flagged and after the re-start the riders settled into what looked like a done deal, Jack Wilson leading followed by Connor Dennis and visitor George Turner. Yet yards from the finish line Jack and Connor crashed leaving George to take the flag with Jack in second and Connor third. The next moto was a clear win for Connor with George and Jack battling for second place. The last moto was another win for Connor with Jack in second and Jordan Wood taking third. The overall earned by Connor with George's win securing him second on the day after being tied on points with Jack.

Visiting Auto rider Jamie Clarke earned the only maximum of the day. In the first moto Jamie was chased by Tom Hutchinson and fellow visitor Dylan Woodcock. The next moto saw Jamie and Tom battle for the lead and Daniel Dumont take third place. The last moto saw Tom and Dylan finish behind Jamie securing all three young riders a spot on the podium. Welcome to Auto rider Ashley Surridge who has been waiting patiently for his first ride with East Kent SSC.

Round 12 of the Summer Championship will take place on the 30th September at Lamberhurst.

5th August 2007 - Staplehurst

Report by Angie Johnson

Club Chairman Gary Lane would like to thank the Committee and the track building team for all their hard work at Staplehurst, enabling us to run a successful round 10 of the Club Summer Championship.

The Seniors were the first group of the day to try out the new additions to the track. In the first moto Ashley Watt stormed to the flag with Paul Anderson and Craig Bliss not letting the whoops get the better of them. The second moto was another win for Ashley followed by Matt Hornby and Paul. The last moto saw Craigs positive mental attitude to the whoops lead him to a triumphant win chased by Paul and Dean Read. Paul Andersons consistent top three finishes earning him the overall with Craig and Dean joining him on the podium.

In the AMX Dexter Marks took the first moto with Dave Capper and Sam Holloway leading the rest of the group. The next two motos saw David Fearne earn both wins with Dexter taking both second places and Dave a pair of thirds.Championship leader Dexter rewarded with the overall, David Fearne in second and Dave Capper third on the day.

The Big-Wheel's first moto saw Kray Still flying around the track with Shaun Springer and Arron Jenner keeping the pressure on. The next moto was a second win for Kray, this time chased by Arron with Shaun in pursuit. The last moto saw Shaun first to the flag with Arron and Kray ahead of the rest of the riders. Kray earning the top spot on the podium with Shaun in second place and Arron third overall.

The Small-Wheel's are proving to be the group to watch lately. Toby Harkness made light work of the whoops and achieved an impressive maximum. Lee Newby shadowed him to take three well deserved second place finishes. Daniel Packman secured the last place on the podium with his pair of seconds and a third. Andrew Hutchinson was third to the flag in moto two and Jonathon Brighton had a brilliant ride into forth place in the first moto, a personal best for the young rider.

Junior rider Jack Wilson continued to dominate his group by earning the final maximum of the day. Connor 'Beefy' Dennis joined him on the podium after gaining a pair of seconds and a fourth place finish. The last podium position awarded to Jordan Wood after taking third place in all three motos. Patrick O'Neil was second to the flag in the last moto securing him fourth overall.

The little Auto riders were spared the whoops and gave the track their all. Tom Hutchinson and Callum Stone put on an exciting display as they battled each other all the way to the flag. Callum earned the first win with Tom and Ashdon Manktelow chasing. The next two motos were wins for Tom followed by Callum and Daniel Dumont. Tom rewarded with the overall, Callum in second and Daniel third on the day.

29th July 2007 - Lamberhurst

Report by Angie Johnson

Please accept my apologises for this report being late. The report from Staplehurst will appear next week.

East Kent were at Lamberhurst recently for round 9 of the Summer Championship. A heavy downpour overnight had left the track extremely muddy and the riders faced one of the most challenging dates in the calendar this year. Well done to the riders, lap scorers, marshals, Auto and Junior pick-ups, medics and the Committee for braving the mud and helping to run a successful meeting in such adverse conditions.

For safety reasons the 36 Junior riders had the track cut for them at two separate points. The first moto saw Championship leader Jack Wilson take the flag chased by Patrick O'Neil and Jordan Wood. The second moto looked like a re-run with the boys digging in again and finishing in the same order. The last moto was a win for Patrick followed by Sid Evans and Callum Heasman. The overall awarded to Patrick with Jack in second and Jordan third on the day.

The Autos raced on their usual shortened track and fought bravely for positions. Visitor Tommie Schofield battled with Tom Hutchinson for the lead in moto one with Callum Stone pursuing the pair. Moto two was a start to flag win for Callum followed by Tom with Tommie working his way up to third. The last moto was another win for Tommie with Tom and Elliot Phillips chasing him to the flag. The overall secured by Tommie with Tom in second and Callum joining them on the podium.

In the Small Wheel group Toby Harkness's skill and determination in the mud earned him the only maximum of the day. In the nailbiting first moto Toby's lead was challenged by both Daniel Packman and Lee Newby but he pulled it back again and stormed to the flag with Lee and Andrew Hutchinson in pursuit. The second moto saw Toby chased by Daniel Packman and Daniel Guy. The last moto was re-run after being red flagged and saw Toby rewarded with maximum points, Daniel Guy's second place secured him the next spot on the podium with Daniel Packman joining them and earning third overall.

In the Big Wheel group the first moto was a win for Arron Jenner chased by Shaun Springer and Lewis Dowsett. The second moto saw Shaun first to the flag pursued by Chris Chapman and Lewis, bad luck for Arron keeping him from a podium position this week. The last moto was another win for Arron followed by Shaun and Chris. The overall earned by Shaun with Chris and Lewis second and third respectively.

The Seniors were the first group out into the mud and Paul Anderson made it look easy as he led the first moto and stayed relatively clean! Matt Hornby and Lee Powell were next to the flag in the mudfest that was behind him.The second moto saw Ashley Watt earn the Holeshot award and take the win after a challenge from Matt, with Paul keeping on the pressure. The last moto was another win for Ashley followed by Paul and Junior Thomas. Tied on points Ashley earned the overall from Paul, with Matt third on the day.

In the AMX David Fearne marked his return with a gate to flag win in moto one, he was followed by Dave Capper and # 157. The second moto was another win for David with Dexter Marks and Alix Foreman next to the flag. The last moto was a win for Dexter as David fought back to second and Alix took third. The overall earned by Dave, Dexter and Alix joining him on the podium.

Wishing good luck and safe racing to all East Kent SSC riders at the BSMA Final this weekend.
