2nd March 2008 - Newnham

Report by Kim Bury

Well, in the Dust Bowl formerly known as the Garden of England, East Kent held their second meeting of the championship & BSMA qualifier. While the rest of the country is struggling with floods and are knee deep in mud we are having trouble seeing the track for the dust! The going was very hard and flinty but after a slow start we managed to get two blocks in of some fantastic racing from the boys and girls. Well done to all the kids for giving us a thoroughly exciting day and something to cheer about on Mothers Day.

In the AMX races Paul Willis had another great day winning both races, well done to him, in the first race Brett Fisher came second and Troy Beck third. In the second race Graham Heasman came second with Troy Beck Third. So, on the podium we had Wild Man Willis in first place, Graham Heasman second and Brett Fisher took the third spot.

The Seniors saw Aaron Jenner win first place on the podium with a first in the first race and a second in the second race. Joe Cundle took the second spot as he won the second moto. Karl Johnson took the third place as he had a second in the first race followed by a third in the second race. Shaun Springer came third in the first race.

In the Big Wheels the top three names were the same for both races Tom Crittenden won both races so gained the podium top spot ,good racing Tom. Chris Chapman took the second spot as he had a third in the first race and a second in the last race. Zach Peters came in third on the podium with a second in the first moto and a third in the second.

The Small wheels also had an all out winner with Ryan Fellowes winning both races well done Ryan. Toby Stubberfield came in second in the first moto and Dan Packman was third. In the second race it was Brad Garrett who had second place and Jake Fry who took third place. So, overall on the day Ryan took top spot on the podium with Toby in second place and Brad Garrett in third.

Jack Wilson won both the Juniors races which gained him top spot on the podium; with Patrick O’Neil taking both second places he took the second spot. Third place in the first race went to Mitchell Lewis so he took third spot on the day. Jake Deacon was third in the second race.

It must be a day for winners as the Autos had an all out winner too, Jake Kemp won both races. Ashdon Manktelow took both seconds gaining him second place overall on the day.  Carl Budge was third in the first race. I would like to make a special mention for Albie Wilkie who took third position in the second race giving him third overall on the day as it was his first race ever, really well done Albie!.

17th February 2008 - Lamberhurst

Report by Kim Stubberfield

East Kent held the first round of the Summer Championship at Lamberhurst. There was a fantastic turnout being a BSMA qualifier too. There were full line-ups for most groups with a ‘double’ for the Seniors.

The day started cold and frosty but the sun shone through defrosting the solid ground and making the track fairly good going. By the end of the day it wasn’t the track that caused concern but the paddock. Thank you very much to Mr Nigel Harkness for supplying so many tractors to pull the stranded from the field and to everyone else who stayed behind to help, otherwise I think we would still be there.

Welcome to all new comers and a good years racing to everyone.

All the Autos put in a heroic effort to get round the whole track, the spectators cheering them all the way. Jake Kemp won a Hat trick coming first in all three races, well done Jake; Eton Williams took second place in the first race and third in third moto. Carl Budge earn’t himself an overall second place on the day with a third in the first race and second in race two and three. Ashdon Manktelow came third in the third race.

There was another hat trick in the Juniors this time from Jack Wilson who won all three motos in style, Jake Deacon took second place for the day with a second in the first race and a third in the third. Callum Heasman gained himself the third spot by getting a third in the second moto and a second in the third moto.
Mitchell Lewis took third place in the first race and Patrick O’Neill had a second in the second race.

In the Small Wheels Lee Newby had a great day winning races one and two. In the third race he and Jack Fry looked like they might take each other out as they chased Ollie Townsend who kept his lead and took first place in the third race. At the end of the day Lee Newby took top spot on the podium, Ollie second and Dan Packman third, who had a second in the first race and third in the second.

The first Big Wheel race was won by Chris Chapman followed by Jordan Divall and Zach Peters. Jordan Divall won both the second and third motos giving him the overall win. Chris Chapman had a second in race two and came second in the overall. Zach Peters, who took third spot on the day, also had a third in race three. Toby Harkness took second place in race three.

In the Seniors there was a double line up which meant we saw four exciting races, all riders entering three each, which meant lots of different names in the top three each time.  In the first race Scott Hollingsbee won with Piers Skinner and Jack Hasemore behind him, the second race was won by Shaun Springer and second and third were taken by Rowan Hill and Piers respectively. The third moto saw Joe Cundle win, Shaun come in second and Jack third. First place in the forth race was also taken by Joe and second by Rowan and third place by Craig Bliss. This Meant Joe Cundle took first place overall Rowan Hill second and Shaun Springer third.

The first AMX was won by David Capper. Paul Willis taking second and Michael Chesney was third. The second race was won by Troy Beck with Paul behind him and David in third place; the third race was another win for Troy with Paul in second and Alix in Third. Wild man Willis’s three second places gave him the top spot overall for the day, Troy Beck second on the podium and Alix Foreman third.

27th January 2008 - Riverside

Report by Angela Johnson

Winter Championship Rd 5

On Sunday East Kent SSC held the 5th round of the Winter Championship at the Riverside MX track in Dartford. It was the first meeting run by the newly elected committee and a welcome return to racing for 2008.

The track was quoted as being "gnarley" and pushed the riders hard on their first club outing of the new year. Two full blocks of racing were run before the meeting was cancelled due to an accident. Many thanks to the In-Pulse medics for giving their usual professional care in such muddy conditions, and wishing everyone involved a speedy recovery.

The Auto group had a low entry due to the wet conditions but the eight riders that braved the shortened track did so with courage and determination. Cheered on and encouraged by the spectators they all finished both races and proved to everyone what little Trojans they are. Jake Kemp earned both wins and was also awarded with the holeshot trophy and a prize of a pair of goggles kindly donated by Destination MX. Carl Budge gained both second places and Sam Ongley took both third places earning the pair podium positions alongside Jake. Lewis Cloud, Michael Eggert, Reece Denton, Ashley Surridge and Dave Capper joined the overall winners in doing themselves, their families and the club proud. Well done boys!

The Junior riders battled hard as they rode the full course of the difficult track. Callum Heasman earned the overall after posting two skillful wins that made it look a lot easier than it really was! Patrick O'Neil earned both second places to take second overall and Mitchell Lewis earned both thirds to take third on the day.

In the Small-Wheel group Jack Towerzey was first to the flag in both motos and took the overall. Jonathan Brighton posted second place in both motos earning him second on the day. Daniel Packman's third and fourth places secured him the last spot on the podium ahead of Jordan Wood who gained third place in the second moto.

The first Big-Wheel moto was a win for Tom Crittenden followed by Jordan Divall and Luke Newman. The second moto saw Toby Harkness take the win chased by Jordan and "Club Best Newcomer 2007" John Eaton. Jordan was rewarded with the overall, with Toby in second and Tom third on the day.

In the Senior group Karl Johnson showed why he was awarded "Most Improved Senior 2007" as he posted two wins and earned the overall. Arron Jenner continued to make his mark in this group as he pulled back after a crash in the second moto to finish second overall. George Foames and Rowan Hill posted a second and third place respectively but were beaten to the last podium place by a determined Reece Jordan who had a great ride earning a third and a fourth place.

In the AMX group Paul Anderson posted two well-earned wins. He was followed to the flag by Brett Fisher and Paul Willis in the first moto, with Willis and Graham Heasman chasing him in the second moto. Paul Anderson earning the overall with Paul Willis in second and Graham third on the day.

The final round of the Winter Championship is on the 3rd February at Newnham.
